That is exactly what these are! I have worked with this homeowner several times over the years. She called me because her family room needed updating and she has some challenging windows in that room. Beautiful windows, but challenging, none the less.
I showed her a sketch of this unusual design and she loved it. Very different, very fun, very casual – exactly what she had described.
This unique and one of a kind treatment for an arch window garnered this response from the homeowner:
"Exciting Windows! by Kim Lyon did a fabulous job on four of my first floor windows. She did two great looking formal treatments for my living room and dining room, and then some awesome, more casual looks for my kitchen and great room. She was a pleasure to work with and so helpful in picking out wonderful fabrics/rods. I would definitely recommend Kim to make your home look updated and fabulous!" Karen W.

I love my clients. Paula, in particular, was so fun to work with. She actually called me after seeing my van in a parking lot, while shopping the day after Thanksgiving. Now that is power shopping! Paula was very nervous about this decorating project. As you can see the whole wall of this room is windows, and beautiful ones, at that. Neither she, nor her husband wanted to cover the windows or block their view, but the sun coming through was very harsh, and Paula just wanted to add some color and warmth to the room. She had seen a few ideas on my website that she thought would work and was anxious to get my thoughts. We took her initial thoughts, coupled with the knowledge of what she was willing to invest in the project, and came up with a great design that worked beautifully.
My first suggestion was to get the windows tinted to help with the sun's harshness. While Paula was nervous about fabric selection - she wanted red, but not too red - I assured her the fabric we chose would accomplish what she was looking for. While I am sure she did not sleep the night before installation, she was thrilled with the outcome. The window tinting film was applied first, and then the fabric treatments added all the color and warmth she was looking for.
Here, in Paula's own words, is her reaction: "It was wonderful working with Kim. She helped with ideas and fabric choices as well as ease my fears. She is a god send. I will call her back for future drapery choices."
This colorful valance was installed just last week into a lovely home in Mason, OH. The homeowners were hosting a large wedding shower at their home and were thrilled to have their lower level complete before the party. They told me they couldn't stop looking at it, words that thrill me, I assure you! But it was what they said next that intrigued me the most. She said, "I wish we had done something like this upstairs". The husband assured her by saying, "We had several professional opinions that the cornice was the way to go". Then they said to me, " We just like the flowing lines better than the flat cornice".
You see, I knew that because I ask lots of questions when I meet with homeowner's for the first time. We talk about their lifestyle, how the room is used, how they want to feel in a room. We look at many photos, again asking questions. I want to find out what designs, styles, and fabrics they are drawn to. And maybe more importantly, what does not appeal to them.
I never walk into a home with a preconceived idea of what should be done on a window. I don't live there, and therefore it is not up to me alone. I love to collaborate with the homeowner to find out what THEY are thinking. We couple that with my experience and knowledge, and come up with the perfect design for THEM. There are many great options for any one window and room. And just like with the cornice story above, lots of great ideas and opinions. But, I strive to deliver something more.... Something that brings that "I can't stop looking at it " reaction.

What Does Color Do? One of the first things we notice about something is it's color. Unless, of course, there are no lights! Color is light and we've mentioned that before but color is an intangible part of light that is vital to our health and our mood. Nearly 100% of the decision to purchase a product is based on color. Color speaks volumes about us and TO us.
Here is a bit about some colors and how they influence behavior:
Pink -- unconditional love and healingOrange -- Happy, social, energeticBlue -- relaxation, vision, rest and independenceGreen -- the color that is easiest on our physical eye, the color of nature, the color of healing loveYellow -- warmth, nourishing and grounding, self-esteem, will, determination, thinking and good digestion (of food and issues)White -- purity, clarity, spirituality, all colors of lightPurple/Violet -- spirituality, action and rest at the same timeBlack -- protection, depth, mysteryRed -- passion, action, deep love (usually romantic)

I have noticed my clients choosing more and more colorful fabrics for their windows and pillows.
Here are a just a few that have been used over the past several months.
No drab and boring windows here - we create Exciting Windows!
This was a fun project! The homeowner’s called me out to meet with them because they had an excruciating sunlight problem in their room and just did not know how to solve it. We talked about several options and were able to rule some things out right away. Of course arched windows also complicate the possibilities
After our first meeting, I had a brainstorm. I had often heard one of my vendors, Helser Brothers, speak of an “outside the box” use for one of their products. This would be the perfect application….I was excited! When I showed a sample of the Faux Iron Tableaux product with fabric stretched and attached to the back, the homeowner loved it immediately. This was not an easy project, that is for sure. Templates needed to be made in a 2 story room. We also added Roman Shades to three of the windows to give them light control options. There would be no forgiveness if the measurements weren’t exactly right. Everything fit perfectly and we were all thrilled with the results. A very unique treatment for a very unique need.
