Advanced House Framing Techniques
How many areas of your new home don’t have a single R-Value of insulation? If you are conventionally framing your home there are things you can do to make sure it is as energy efficient as possible.
Most framers are going to frown on this information but I believe this article from The US Department of Energy is worth looking at. They refer to their system as “Advanced Framing Techniques” and claim the following results are possible.
- Materials cost savings of about $500 or $1000 (for a 1,200- and 2,400-square-foot house, respectively)
- Labor cost savings of between 3% and 5%
- Annual heating and cooling cost savings of up to 5%.
I need someones help here. After reading the article, tell me how it is that you can save $500 to $1000 on material cost. This seems unbelievable to me but I still think the whole process is a good idea.
