I had the privilege of speaking to Bruce Ryan from Bruce Ryan Masonry. He has been in the business of repairing chimneys for the last 35 years and he truly knows his stuff.

The biggest thing i learned from Bruce today was that most chimney repair companies in the area recommend cement crowns that crack almost immediately or withing the first few years. Rather than merely topping your chimney with man-made cement or rubberized crown-coat, He uses limestone caps with a 2-inch overhang and drip edge, ensuring longevity with minimal future preventive maintenance. His approach adds years to the structural stability of your chimney withstanding our harsh Tri-State weather.

If your chimney is in need of some attention, I would recommend giving Bruce a call today at 513-378-3251. You can also visit his website at www.chimneyrepaircincinnati.com.

<![CDATA[Patio Replacement and Treated Pergola]]>Tue, 13 Nov 2012 09:03:03 GMThttp://www.buildingsupplyguy.com/1/post/2012/11/patio-replacement-and-treated-pergola.htmlPicture
Hughes Construction Company was hired to remove a 23’x 24’ brick paver patio and replace it with a fiber reinforced concrete patio of the same size. The home owner also wanted us to remove a short brick wall containing some permanent flower pots and to investigate and remove an underground oil tank. Once the oil tank was excavated we realized that there was still some unused oil in the tank. Northern Hills Oil Company was hired to pump out and haul of the excess oil so
that we could successfully remove and properly dispose of the tank. Hughes Construction then filled the hole where the tank was in compacted lifts and spread gravel on the area where the new concrete patio would be poured. The pergola was constructed above the patio area using all pressure treated wood with the wood being provided by me through McCabe Lumber. Once the pergola was constructed they poured the new fiber reinforced, Class C concrete patio replacement. The concrete for the patio was provided by Central Ready Mix.

<![CDATA[I Repaired My Clothes Dryer And It was easy]]>Wed, 19 Sep 2012 09:40:22 GMThttp://www.buildingsupplyguy.com/1/post/2012/09/i-repaired-my-clothes-dryer-and-it-was-easy.htmlPicture
Okay.........this is a bit embarrassing, but our dryer has been on its last leg for six months. When my wife would do the laundry you could literally hear the dryer outside of the house. The neighbors probably thought we were manufacturing something.

One day when the noise was just too much, I decided I would give it one last chance and try to fix it myself. I did a search online describing the problem I was having and came across PartSelect.Com. I found the parts I needed and placed my order. Two working days later, I had the parts and watched their cool video (Shown Below). I had the dryer working like new in no time flat.

I would strongly encourage anyone with even minor mechanical skills to try these guys at Parts Select and see if you can't save yourself hundreds of dollars.
